President Macron of France is desperate to send French soldiers to Ukraine to fight Russia. However, Macron has run in to multiple obstacles. The French military does not want to go to Ukraine. France’s European allies are cool to the idea. And the United States does not want to get involved in rescuing the French when it goes awry.
In an interview, President Putin responded to Macron by saying that if any French troops show up in Ukraine, they will be “invaders”. He made it clear that French troops would be a target of the Russian military.
Last week Macron said that there would be no limits to France’s support for Ukraine. President Putin responded by saying that if France has no red lines with Russia, then Russia has no red lines with France.
President Putin made it clear that he’s open to negotiations with the West to end the war in Ukraine, but he’s not going to negotiate simply because Ukraine and the West are running low on ammunition.
Mr. Putin does not want to get duped with another Minsk like agreement that the West had no intention of enforcing.
