Jalyssa Dugrot writes on X:
“Not really buying that Jeffrey Goldberg being added to that Signal chat was some “blunder” and I’ll tell you why.
This looks like a controlled leak. Some deliberate move to make the war plans for Yemen public in a palatable way. Controlled leaks are a well established, and very well known U.S. and Israeli tactic to shape narratives and manufacture consent before escalation. After all, we shouldn’t forget that in early October of 2024, “leaked” documents showed US intelligence on Israel’s plans to attack Iran—and then what happened? Israel strikes Iranian facilities on October 25th.
Goldberg’s background makes it very clear that he’s the last person you’d “accidentally” include. He’s exactly who you use when you need to push imperial policy through media cover.
Goldberg served in the Israeli Defense Forces as a prison guard at Ktzi’ot Prison which is a facility notorious for mass detentions and abuse of thousands of Palestinian prisoners. He’s admitted this in his own words in The New Yorker:
“I served as a military policeman in the Israeli army. Part of my service was spent as a prison guard at Ktzi’ot, a military prison camp filled with thousands of Palestinians…”
Human rights organizations documented systematic degrading treatment and brutality at Ktzi’ot.
From there, he became a mouthpiece for U.S. and Israeli intelligence. His reporting consistently debuts narratives aligned with military and intelligence operations. In 2010, he published The Point of No Return in The Atlantic, presenting imminent Israeli strikes on Iran as fact which was later exposed as psychological propaganda rather than actionable plans.
Goldberg also played a very important role in the Iraq War disinformation campaign. His 2002 piece in The New Yorker, The Great Terror, aggressively pushed claims that Saddam Hussein was working with Al-Qaeda and pursuing WMDs. These lies were cited by Bush administration officials as part of the official pretext for invasion.
He also maintains close ties to top Israeli leadership, having repeatedly interviewed Netanyahu and cultivated relationships with senior Israeli political and intelligence officials. In 2012, Tablet Magazine called him “Israel’s unofficial media ambassador in Washington.” Know that this wasn’t a hyperbole. It doesn’t get more obvious that this was an intentional acknowledgment of his function which is to translate and deliver Israeli strategic messaging directly to the American political class. Full stop.
So we’re supposed to believe that the editor in chief of The Atlantic, a historically trusted delivery system for controlled leaks mind you, also with a long history of laundering military propaganda and intelligence narratives was “mistakenly” added to a chat about war plans? This was intentional. The system uses people like Goldberg when they need to quietly roll out escalation plans.
Stay alert. Question absolutely everything.”
