Foreign Affairs is preparing its readers for the surrender of Ukraine.
“It will be extremely hard, if not impossible, for the United States to achieve either its short- or long-term objectives if the war drags on for months longer. However distasteful it may be to reach a compromise with Putin after the carnage he has unleashed, the United States should work to secure a negotiated settlement to the conflict sooner rather than later.”
Anyone watching this war closely knew that Russia would win. The question was how long Zelensky would hold out, keep fighting, and allow more of Ukraine to be destroyed. It was a neocon and social media fantasy to think that Ukraine was winning the war.
Now, the establishment is finally admitting that Ukraine will lose the war. Better to negotiate a settlement than to have your country wiped out.
